Cake Cutting Guide

Cake Cutting Guide

How to cut your cake....
A silly title isn’t it, why would cutting a cake even be a topic? You just use a knife and slice it up, right!?
Believe it or not, there is more to it!

So, here is a great 'how to cut your cake' photo. Instead of cutting your cake into the wedges like most of us do, your cake should be cut along these lines to get the optimal number of servings. Remember to have your cake WELL chilled before cutting. If you aren’t sure how to cut your cake you may not get enough portions out of it, so be sure to follow these easy guidelines. There are also many one minute videos on You Tube and Google.

Hope this helps everyone!

Steps:

Step One: Ensure your cake is cold. Remove all decorations and set aside.
Step Two: Use a hot sharp knife and cutting board.
Step Three: Cut first slab laying it on the cutting board.
Step Four: Cut cake slab into equal tall portions or cut tall portions in half creating treat slices.
Step Five: Always clean your knife between cutting to ensure you have clean cake slices.
Step Six: Enjoy!

If you have a tiered cake, there will be a wooden center dowel going through the middle of the cake for stability.  There will also be plastic straws on tiers below the top tier for support.  Please remove any straws before serving. If you have fondant figures, sugar flowers, fresh flowers, or other 3D decorations, make sure to remove them from the cake before cutting.  While they are made from sugar, there may be bamboo skewers or other support elements inside them that are not edible.

Cake Size Guide

Cake Size Guide

Do you ever wonder what the difference in cake sizes looks like? It's hard to choose without a visual sometimes. Here are three common sizes next to each other. Parkway Cakes typically have 3 layers of cake and 2 layers of buttercream filling, unless otherwise noted. The height will vary depending on the flavor and filling type. Please note how important it is to cut your cake correctly - to ensure you get the maximum servings!
